In Genesis Chapter 3, Disobedience to God’s Commands entered the world, shattering God’s Plan to live in Fellowship with mankind. Disobeying God is called Sin. God cannot abide Sin. When Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, the Peace, Joy and Contentment they had been experiencing was shattered – gone; replaced by pain, suffering and a constant struggle just to survive. The rest of the Bible is about God’s efforts to return people to His Design: To Love and Obey Him. He came up with the Perfect Plan in the Person of His only Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Perfect Solution to Sin, but people must accept God’s Free Gift – He will not force it upon you. Next time we will talk about Noah and the Great Flood.
I watched a Billy Graham special on the local Fox affliate last night and it made me realize that I have not emphasized to you enough just how much God Loves You – every person reading this posting. No matter who you are, where you come from, what you have done, whether you are a Christian or not – God Loves You. He Loves You ALL the time and wants the best for your life, here on earth and in eternity. God Loves You so much that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to pay for our Sins – Your Sins and My Sins – ALL OUR SINS. Jesus took the penalty; took the punishment for our Sins when He was crucified and died on The Cross. Do you know anyone else willing to sacrifice his son to take the punishment for you; I do not know of such a person – except Jesus Christ. When Jesus rose from the dead, He proved that He has the power of Life and Death; Jesus defeated Death once and for all. Jesus Loves You and wants you to live for all eternity with Him in heaven and all you have to do is Repent of your sins, Believe in your heart that Jesus suffered and died for you and then rose from the dead. Go to the Gospel of John and read the third Chapter. God’s Love for you cannot be measured. Genesis, Chapter 3 next time.

|This is the first in a series of postings about the Bible – Holy Scripture. Please read Genesis 1 and 2, the first two chapters of the Bible. Now read them again, carefully comprehending each verse, each word. It is in these two chapters that we find God’s design for human-kind – for us. Chapter 1 is about God creating the Heavens and the Earth and Chapter 2 is about Life as God intended for us: A life of Peace, Joy and Contentment – a life of fellowship with God. A life with plenty to eat and drink – without the hard, back-breaking labor required since man lived in the Garden of Eden; a life without illness or death; without killing (not even animals), without lies, without stealing or cheating or any of the evils we now contend with. No alcoholism, no drug addictions, no abortions, no prisons or rehab centers. Just human-kind living as God originally envisioned. Man was intended to live with God – to fellowship with Him, in Joy, Peace and Contentment.
In Chapter 3, Sin entered the world and the Joy, Peace and Contentment – the fellowship with God, was shattered. The remaining 1,187 chapters of the Bible, (using the New King James Version (NKJV)),are about God’s efforts and plans for us, His people, to return to His original design – to Love and Obey Him. I suppose every generation since Adam and Eve has had this same thought; but it seems to me that we are further away from our Creator’s original design than we have ever been.
Next time we will talk about Chapter 3. I encourage your comments. Thank you.
Last posting talked about spending time with God and getting to know Him; Very Important! Today, Prayer is our subject. To start off, let me say, in the strongest possible terms that it is vital that you Pray to God. Having a relationship with God or hoping to get close to God is impossible to imagine without Prayer. It is that important. The words and technique you employ is secondary to your heart and attitude, which is everything. Praying from Scripture or a Prayerbook is good, but make sure to develop the habit of spontaneously opening your heart to God in Prayer: God is especially touched by your heartfelt outpouring. As you get closer to God and get more comfortable talking to Him (another term for ‘Praying’) you will undoubtedly turn to Prayer throughout the day and it will become an integral part of your life. A popular memory tool for people just starting out is to use the acronym ACTS: Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. Again, what is in your heart is paramount. I welcome your comments and questions. Later this week, we will begin our discussion of the Bible – our reference manual regarding The Truth About God. Thank you.
Spending time with God: It’s about Peace, Joy and Contentment. It’s about getting to know God – getting closer to Him – being closer to Him. Find a spot where you can be alone with your Creator. I prefer being in the dark where distractions are less likely. Clear you mind. Try not to think about anything. To help me stay focused, I repeat, as often as necessary, scripture from 1 Samuel 3:9 “Speak, Lord, For Your servant hears.” Listen. Listen for that still small voice. Listen for the Holy Spirit to talk to you. As previously mentioned, God already knows everything about you; He wants you to know Him. His character, His integrity, His power – His LOVE for you. Like everything worthwhile in life, this will take time and effort. If you try this once or twice and then give up on it, you probably will not achieve the desired results; then you can go back to what you were doing and wonder why life is not going very well? But, if you persist, with a sincere heart, you will find God and get to know Him. I guarantee it. And when that time comes, it will be like finding the Hope Diamond, wrapped in the winning Power Ball Lottery ticket, on the beach, only a hundred million times better. So get started and do not give up. God is waiting for you. God Bless You. Next time: Prayer.
We lost a warrior for Jesus this week. Thank you Reverend Billy Graham for showing us how it is supposed to be done for Jesus Christ. Everyone is urged to go watch “The Cross – Billy Graham’s Message to America” on YouTube.
God Loves You – Unconditionally. He wants to have an intimate relationship with you. God already knows everything about you – inside and out; after all, He is Omniscient (All-Knowing), as well as being Omnipresent (He is everywhere, at all times), and is Omnipotent (All-Powerful). So, all that is needed for that intimacy we mentioned is for you to get to know Him. You can learn to know God by incorporating three behaviors into your life: (1) Spend quiet time with God, (2) Pray to God and (3) Read the “Holy Bible, the Word of God.” God knows what is in your heart! Yes, He does. That allows me to promise you that if you make a sincere and honest effort to find and get to know God, He will reveal Himself to you. I think that is enough for now. Later this week, we will talk about spending quiet time with God. See you then.

Besides being a Founding Father, John Adams was a dreamer; a quote: “Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love and reverence toward Almighty God….What a Utopia, what a Paradise would this region be.” John Adams (1735-1826), the Second President of the United States and First Vice-President, a Signer of The Declaration of Independence. (Tom’s Note: Can you just imagine what this would mean for our country and our society? The Peace, the Joy, the Contentment! Look for more on The Bible in the next post.)
